How to Boost FPS in CS2 (2026)

Performance · Updated · 2 min read

High and stable FPS make CS2 feel smoother and more responsive. The good news: the biggest gains come from a few in-game settings and basic PC care, not from secret tweaks. Here is what really helps, in order.

1. Measure your FPS first

Before changing anything, turn on the telemetry display so you can see the effect of each change:

cl_hud_telemetry_frametime_show 2
cl_showfps 1

Look at how stable the frame rate is, not only its maximum: drops during fights are what you feel.

2. Lower the heaviest video settings

In Settings › Video › Advanced Video, these settings cost the most performance for the least competitive benefit:

3. Cap your frame rate

An unlimited frame rate that keeps jumping feels worse than a stable one. Cap it with fps_max at a value your PC can hold almost all the time, ideally above your monitor's refresh rate. Turn on NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency if your graphics card supports it.

fps_max 300
fps_max_ui 60

4. Basic PC care

How to Boost FPS in CS2 FAQ

How can I get more FPS in CS2?

Disable Ambient Occlusion, lower Shader, Particle and Model/Texture Detail, set HDR to Performance, update your graphics driver and close heavy background programs.

Should I uncap my FPS in CS2?

Not necessarily. A cap with fps_max that your PC can hold steadily often feels smoother than an unlimited frame rate that keeps jumping.

How do I show FPS in CS2?

Type cl_hud_telemetry_frametime_show 2 or cl_showfps 1 in the console, or enable the Telemetry options in Settings › Game.

Do launch options increase FPS in CS2?

Barely. Most FPS launch options were made for CS:GO; in-game video settings matter far more.
